Original Sin
What is original sin ?
God gave Adam and Eve the gift of life and the gift of paradise simultaneously. Between them, he inserted no delay.
Yet, they let the gift of paradise slip through their fingers. They fumbled the ball. They dropped the prize. Ooops! Butterfingers was the problem.
Is the problem intractable ? Is the problem beyond the power of God to solve? Are we forever doomed to fall into the same trap as Adam and Eve did? Or did God come up with a solution that prevents the children of Adam and Eve from repeating the original sin of their parents?
Yes. God concocted the medicine that cures us. The medicine is harsh but effective. The minute Adam and Eve exited paradise and entered the Valley of Tears, God started to inoculate us with it. God baptizes us in the evils of the Valley of Tears. He lets us stew in the evils of the Valley of Tears for a lifetime like pickles in a barrel of toxic brine. The medicine cures us of our tendency to butterfingers a/k/a concupiscence . When the gift of paradise is delivered to us, we will keep it. We will not let it slip through our fingers. We will not fumble the ball. Having put our fingers into the flames, we have learned for ourselves that the fire is hot. A life without God in the Valley of Tears is too terrible to contemplate . The prodigal son will never return to the pig sty . Neither will we. Our baptism in the evils of the Valley of Tears makes firm our grip on the gift of paradise. It puts iron into our grip.
